Located in eastern Utah, Nine Mile Canyon (despite it’s name) is roughly 40 miles in length, and is a designated Scenic Back Country Byway. Today it is a rugged outpost of the American west, boasting towering sandstone walls separated by a lush valley of private, corporate, and Bureau of Land Management owned land parcels. The vein of Nine Mile Canyon’s history runs deep - running back thousands of years to the first people in the Americas. The prehistoric and historic evidence of which, can be seen artfully etched and painted onto the canyon walls.

The Canyon.

“What we have is a perfect storm of one of America’s richest archaeological districts sitting right next to one of America’s greatest natural gas reserves, and a conflict happens when you have industrial development in a cultural landscape.”

— Jerry Spangler, Director | Colorado Plateau Archaeological Alliance
